Kingdom Bikes FOIA DH Hardtail

updateD... the Supreme
our cutting edge xc machine gets even sharper

It's been about a week since we first posted news of our Supreme lightweight XC concept here. Since then we've been recieving feedback and ideas from all directions, some good, some bad and som plain ugly, but by far the best development ideas have come from Weight Weenies forum. So many thanks to you.

We've taken the feedback on board and have made some changes to the original Supreme we posted last week. Below you'll find some fresh CAD renders that incorporate some of the best thinking applied to this anorexic beauty.

Seatpost.
The Integrated Seat Post was the subject of much debate and seems to be very much a 'Marmite' touch to the bike. So we've decided to offer the frame with either an ISP or a conventional seat tube.

Braking news.

In my opinion though, one of the best ideas that came out of our internet brainstorming has been the introduction of rear post mounts for the brakes.

Whilst this might limit the use of different rotors, it will both save weight and also adds some streamlining to the Supreme.

We also added a brake brace between the seat and offside chainstays to help strengthen any flex. Orginally we left this out to reduce weight but common sense and good forum chatter tells us we really should brace this part of the frame.

Headtube.

There will be an option for a tapered headtube as well as a straight 1.1/8" semi integrated headtube. Tapered headtubes apart from being a great development in mountain bikes it also looks very slick, as seen here on the Vendetta.

Here's a quick bite size overview of the specifications and geometry for The Supreme:

So that's the developed Supreme. We will have the first prototype in our hands in about 2 weeks from now and we'll upload pictures of frame and also a discussion article on this site about the component build.

These are our CAD renders from our first set of frame drawings, WE NEED YOUR INPUT, so if you have any thoughts, views or ideas to add to this project use your voice here and post a comment below.

Very nice improvements on the first version.....Looking forwrd to the real deal...

Good job guys!

Looks very nice, one thing:
You are using a tapered headtube (in my opinion a good idea for titanium) but in the rendering I don't see that the downtube is adjusted for the extra width. The main point of a tapered headtube is a bigger area for the downtube to weld to and thus increased front end stiffness. For me the biggest downside of using a titanium bike for racing is the lack of front end stiffness.

Keep up the good work!

Spot on Frank. You caught me out.

I hadn't adjusted the downtube for the render. My CAD skills are semi limited we've a expert in the project to do the finer details, I'm more of a fine polish here and there.

I totally agree with having a bigger area for the downtube to meet the headtube. We missed that trick on our first version of the Vendetta (which has a similar tapered headtube) and it makes sense to use the extra size to flare the downtube and increase the front stiffness. We'll def incorporate this into Proto 2.

And thanks for the kind words.

Loving this site and the ideas on it. The whole Frankenride idea is brilliant! I asked this question on the Mudplugger project too - but what is the best tyre size/recommendation for this type of frame. I'm tired of my current hardtail rubbing the tyre wall every time I hit a berm or hard corner... Same as before - great idea, can't wait to see it...

She's a beaut what sort of money are we talking? Also are you going to be going for the double bottle cage set up as i'm thinking she'll make a stunning Marathon/stage race bike.

Very nice frame, looks really REALLY good, and I'm not really a XC rider, but... this frame is soooo tempting, its torchure!

Nice work!

Brilliant concept here, I'm not sure what stage it's at but you guys seem pretty flexible. I think it's a great idea to incorporate the tapered head tube, it's definitely the way forward. But I think to take it one step further there should also be the option for a full 1.5" non tapered head tube - Cannondale have been doing it for years and the industry as a whole are starting to catch up. It would be great to have the option to run a Lefty fork (in the 1.5" version), give it a few years and I think most forks, even xc will be offered in a 1.5 version. It would help to future proof the frames slightly.

Nice work!
